Surely you prefer your engine to be in good condition, well adjusted and low on oil consumption. After tens of years an overhaul is likely to be necessary in order to reach that state. This does not necessarily mean a complete overhaul, but that can only be established after disassembling the engine. We can then check for the extent of wear of pistons, liners, bearings, camshaft etc. by comparing with factory specifications. We will then inform you about the necessity or desirability for renewal of parts. We would recommend to renew parts when any doubt exists, since the cost of labour involved in another disassembly and assembly at a later stage often exceeds the cost of the parts. We also generally recommend to adapt the cylinder head for the use of unleaded fuel. But the decision is yours of course.
An important part of the fuel system is the carburettor (or carburretors in some cases). Cleanliness is vital for proper operation. We use an ultrasonic cleaning system when overhauling carburettors. The sound waves ensure that all internal channels, which are hard to reach otherwise, are thoroughly cleaned.
